Legal Research Refresher: Whether you’re still more comfortable with Shepard’s in print or you are a “terms and connectors” expert, this brief training will provide some tips and tricks to update your legal research skills. We will discuss free and low-cost options currently available through the WSBA and the Skagit County Law Library and discuss project management strategies to make your legal research dollar and hour as effective as possible.

Presenters Bio:
Barbara Engstrom is the Executive Director of the King County Law Library and an adjunct professor at Seattle University School of Law. Prior to leading the King County Law Library, she was a reference librarian and faculty member at the Seattle University School of Law specializing in foreign, comparative, and international legal research. Barbara teaches Online Advanced Legal Research, the first exclusively online class offered at Seattle University. She is a frequent presenter at CLEs and conferences. She was admitted to the Washington State Bar in 2004.
Maren Anderson is the Skagit County Law Librarian. Her previous experience includes managing the Skagit Volunteer Lawyer Program and representing the Lummi Nation through the Office of the Reservation Attorney. She obtained both her JD (2008) and her MLIS (Law Librarianship, 2020) from the University of Washington and has been a member of the Washington State Bar since 2009.
