Free CLE (Requires Commitment to Volunteer): Protecting Immigrant Children through State Court Actions and Special Immigrant Juvenile Status

Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) provides a pathway for lawful status for foreign-born children living in the U.S. who have been abused, neglected, abandoned, or similarly maltreated by a parent. SIJS is equally available for children who have more recently arrived in the U.S. and those who have resided in the US for most of their lives and may be at-risk of deportation.

This training will provide an overview of SIJS and state court proceedings in which required predicate orders can be obtained in family law and juvenile court. Case scenarios and collateral issues will be discussed.

Presented by Lindsay Lennox, Staff Attorney at NWIRP and Judy Lin, Senior Managing Attorney at the King County Bar Association.

Co-sponsored by the Skagit Volunteer Lawyer Program and LAW Advocates.
