FREE Housing Justice Project CLE

When:   Tuesday, July 18, 2017 from 12:30 – 4:30 pm  

Location:  Burlington Library, Burlington Hill Side Room (820 E Washington Ave, Burlington WA 98233) 

Cost: Free, with a commitment to volunteer at HJP (Friday mornings from 8:45 – 11:30 am) at least three times in the next year

The Skagit Volunteer Lawyer Program and LAW Advocates are partnering to bring a quality training to new and current volunteers assisting low-income clients with landlord/tenant issues.  This half-day CLE will provide clinic volunteers with the following tools:

  •  Overview of the Residential Landlord Tenant Act and the Unlawful Detainer Act
  • How to quickly identify defenses to tenants facing eviction
  • Practical tips for negotiation with opposing counsel and landlords
  • How to use defenses available to tenants in mobile home parks and subsidized housing
  • Updates on changes to the Residential Landlord Tenant Act and the Unlawful Detainer Act, as well as case law
